Emergency Management and Operations

The Building Director also serves as the City’s Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC).  The City is fortunate to have the services of a highly trained volunteer fire service and professionally trained and managed police departments. 

 

These organizations handle normal day-to-day incidents. In the event of a disaster, the EMC would coordinate with police, fire, and outside entities that might be needed for shelter, food, or evacuation. 

 

The EMC meets regularly with all departments to write and update the City’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).  We also work with the University of Delaware and local radio/TV stations, as well as our own Channel 22, to notify residents of actions to take in the event of an emergency.
