About the Department
The Newark Planning and Development Department regulates all land use and development within the city. The Planning and Development Department also is responsible for the management and operation of the city's off-street parking facilities. View Newark's planning and development history.

Staff Responsibilities
When it comes to giving advice on all matters regarding physical development in the City, the Planning and Development Department staff advises:
  • City Manager
  • Planning Commission
  • City Council

Areas Reviewed
The following includes some of the areas reviewed by the Planning and Development Department:
  • Proposed Rezonings
  • Annexations
  • Subdivisions
  • Special Use Permits
  • Changes to City Zoning and Subdivision Regulations

Lots & Permit Facilities
Currently, the department manages six downtown lots, including two monthly permit facilities
