In 1985 Vance joined the firm of Bayard Handelman & Murdoch as Resident Partner for their Newark Office and Executive Committee member and became Managing Partner for the firm in 1990.
In 2000 Vance left the firm and started Vance A. Funk, P.A., where he continues to work along with his son, Vance A. Funk, IV as a real estate attorney.
Community Involvement
Vance's community service includes,
· Former member of the Governor's Commission to Review the Delaware Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.
· Former President & Current member of the Newark Senior Center Board of Directors.
· Former President and member of the St. John's Holy Angels Parish Council.
· Member of the Bob Carpenter Sports Convocation Center Development Committee.
· Member of the Delaware Athletic Steering Committee. Member of the Newark Morning Rotary Club.
· Member of the Delaware Stroke Initiative Board of Directors and, as a stroke survivor, is their current spokesman.
· Organized and ran the volleyball program for Holy Angels Athletic Association for thirteen years.
· Coached more than 500 girls in volleyball, basketball, and track for over eighteen years.
Education
Mayor Funk grew up attending St. Matthew's Grade School and Salesianum School for Boys.
In 1965, he graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a U.S. Army Lt. Commission.
Vance received his law degree from the Washington & Lee School of Law in 1968.
